For starters, you need to know what the painting in the style of sumi-e. This is a Japanese style of painting with ink, which is characterized by a small number of lines, open composition and the use of a single color ink. Ink to a greater or lesser extent, diluted with water, which allows to vary the color of a translucent to a rich and dense. I'm going to show you how to make a wallpaper in the style of sumi-e. We will use Photoshop tools and graphics tablet.
For a start, we need the background against which we will draw. To emulate the style of sumi-e, we will try to recreate the effect of rice paper. Rice paper is handed, so it has a uniform color. And rice paper dried on the grid, and it has usually mark such a lattice structure. Create a new document. Size do from your computer screen, I chose 1600 x 1200. He opened the panel colors and chose a lighter shade of ivory. I filled the entire layer with the color layer and named «Base color». Now use the filter Render-Different clouds. Color will be a little uneven.
Create a second layer, using the tool Rectangular tool I create a rectangle (very small) size of about 45 x 8 px. Fill it with black
Duplicate this layer by dragging the layer icon on the "Create a new layer" or (CTRL + J). With the Move tool, hold down SHIFT, it is moved duplicate the rectangle down about 5 px. Of course, this figure is exemplary, you simply are targeting your eye, as long as the distance was small, no more than about the height of the rectangle. Merge the two layers into one.
Again, duplicate the layer. And in the same way slide down boxes. Remember to hold SHIFT, it will allow you to fix the motion of the layer - it will not move to the left or right.
In this way, copying, moving and merging the layers together, fill the first layer from the top down, and then completely
All boxes should be merged into a single layer. Rename it to "Pattern". Now look over the list of layers button "Lock transparent pixels", activate this feature. Now fill the layer with the squares in the same color that we used to fill the background.
Open the panel Layer style (double-click on the layer). Select Bevel and emboss. Reduce the opacity index Shadow 20-30%.
Uncheck "Lock transparent pixels". Apply filter Blur-Gaussian blur with a value of 4 px. Change the Blend Mode to Multiply and reduce the transmission index of this layer to 10 - 15%.
Rice paper ready. Now we begin the process of drawing itself. Create a new layer called "Bamboo". Select black as the main color and take the brush out of the set of Naturals (rectangular). Brush size around 60% and opacity 80-90
From left to draw two spots near the line.
Select a tool Smudge tool, the value of about 50%, in the form of the same brush. Place the brush at the lower limit of your line, then drag the color toward the bottom. Do this a couple of times. But always start 'smearing' of it with the edge of the line. Do the same with the upper bound. Upward direction, respectively. Do not make smears directly vertically up or down. Create a slope. Do it all again, but a little lower.
Choose a brush with soft edges round shape and the size of about 45 (stand alone choose the size and configuration of transparency and saturation brush). VERY gently draw a sprig of bamboo. It should be thin and neat lines. It would be very natural if the line thickness will vary slightly, and it turns out on this rice paper.
Create a new layer. Call it "Leaves" and a round brush, draw leaves. They should start from the most branches, with a large and spreadable point (as if the ink flowed). By the end of narrow leaves. This effect is obtained by well-tuned depending on the settings of the brush pressure sensitivity on the pen. The boundaries are not clear of leaves and fuzzy.
Create a new layer and name it "Washes", reduce the opacity to 30%. On this layer, repeat the whole process of painting bamboo, but with a slope to the right. The plant will drowning in the fog.
You may not like the compositional arrangement, but you can always use a filter Free transform, so move your drawing.
So how did we create the wallpaper, I left a big part of the picture blank.
In the right corner, I wrote my name, although I'm not quite sure what it is portrayed, but I hope no one knows. That's what happened with me.
