Lesson#95-Design a God of War III Inspired Cracked Text Effect in Photoshop

In this tutorial I will show you the process of creating a cracked text in the style of God of War III. I myself was a fan of the God of War Series for a long time , and was inspired to create this tutorial that mimics the logo of the game. I think I got 

Among other things , I want to show you the use of some brushes and how to use them to create attractive effects in your design works. Also, we will use layer blending modes , masks and setting adjustments. Let's begin !

For work, we need the following:

Grunge Brushset-http://qbrushes.net/52-grunge/

Font-http://www.dafont.com/font.php?file=kratos_truetype&page=1&nb_ppp_old=10&text=God+of+War&nb_ppp=10&psize=m&classt=alpha

Crack Brushset-http://qbrushes.net/cracks-texture-brushes/

Step 1.
Create a new document sized 1200px * 800px and fill it with black. Create a new layer "background texture" above the background is where we have a little porisuem brushes Grunge Brushset.

First we need to brush downloaded loaded into Photoshop. Press B, to highlight the Brush Tool, and make everything as shown in the screenshot below:

1) Click on the arrow " down " near the window size brushes
2) Click on the arrow " to the right" in the upper right corner of the palette of brushes
3) In the EXECUTE menu page, click on "Load Brushes"



After that , the brush you have selected will appear in the palette :



( Highlighted in yellow part of the brushes that you just downloaded )

So , we have a lot of grungy textures that we will use to create the background . On the layer "background texture" with the newly downloaded brushes create something random .

(Note Mix and brush each other , experiment with their size , opacity , and see what you get)

That's worked out for me:



Step 2 .
Right now we already have a background , it's time to write the text . Use a font that I downloaded at the beginning of the lesson.



On the text layer, apply the following styles:
(Layer> Add Layer Style)

Drop Shadow



Inner Shadow



Bevel and Emboss



Gradient Overlay



(Note During the installation of the gradient , you can have more control over its position on the text)

You can do it like this:



Duplicate the layer with the text , it will make it a little brighter :



Step 3 .
Load the selection of the text layer (Ctrl + left click on the layer ) and create a new layer called "crack texture". Without deselecting , download Crack brushset brush in Photoshop and paint them on a layer of "crack texture".

It is evident , as we kept the selection active, cracks appeared only inside it on the text.



Duplicate the layer "crack texture" and set the blending mode to Multiply ( Multiply) , is a bit darken our text :



To get the different variations of the effect, we can create several layers and each of them using paint brushes Crack Brushset various cracks , and the blending mode set to Overlay ( Overlay ) .

You can create layers as you want, I created two more and got this result:



Step 4 .
Now we can add some color to the text . That again load the selection of the text layer (Ctrl + left click on the layer ) and create a new layer "colour overlay".

Here is a little trick - I used the Lasso Tool with feather (Feather) 10px, to cut off the top half of the selected area . To do this during the isolation must hold down Alt.



Do not deselect , click a color , take a soft round brush and paint it inside the selection :



Create a new layer above the layer colour overlay. Highlight the text layer and a soft brush and a color slightly lighter than the previous paint over the top of the text.



Step 5 .
Now we can add some adjustment layers to work with color and contrast. I added two adjustment layers like these :
(Layer> New Adjustment Layer> ...)

And finally , our final result:



This is a result of the lesson . And you can use your own textures or filters and see what you get! Remember, the important thing is always to have creative!
